Agnes Baukol

Funeral services for Agnes Baukol of Starbuck, MN will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Agnes Gudmundsdottir, daughter of Gudmundur Julius Julisson and Jarthrudur Berhhardsdottir, was born on October 23, 1926 near Keflavik, Iceland. Shortly after she was born, the family moved to Reykjavik, Iceland where she grew up and attended school. During World War II, Agnes met Warren Baukol who was stationed in Iceland with the United States Army. They were united in marriage on December 12, 1944 in Reykjavik, Iceland by the Bishop of Iceland. After Warren's honorable discharge from the Army the couple returned to the Starbuck area where they raised their four children. The couple farmed in rural Starbuck. Warren passed away April 6, 2007. Agnes continued to live in the Starbuck area and later became a resident at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Agnes was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Starbuck where she held various positions including directing the junior choir. She was an accomplished knitter, enjoyed quilting, reading, music, playing piano, fishing, golfing, sports, and spending time with friends and family.

Agnes died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN just two days short of her 88th birthday.

She is survived by her sons: Marcus (Deborah) Baukol of Westminster, CO and David (Dianne) Baukol of Glenwood; daughters: Joan (Roger) Wiley of Ramsey and Ruth (Delton) Grussing of Starbuck; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; Brothers: Julius Gudmundsson of Reykjavik, Iceland and Arni (Margret) Gudmundsson of Reykjavik, Iceland; sister: Gudrun Aslaug Gudmundsdottir Boncoddo of Monroe, CT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Baukol; her parents; great-grandchildren: Angel and Gabriel Thorstad; sisters: Bjarnheidur Unnur Gudmundsdottir Faber, Jorunn Gudmundsdottir and Anna Astveig Gudmunsdottir; and one brother: Bernhardur Gudmundsson.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
