In 1952, Allan's family moved to Stevens County, where he attended and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in 1955. On June 1, 1957, he was united in marriage to Helen Anderson at her parents' home in Morris. In 1959, Allan went to work at a foundry in the Twin Cities. Allan was a member of Federated Church in Morris, Farm Bureau, and served on the Stevens County 4-H Leader's Council. He enjoyed farming, playing cards and games, and attending the MN State Fair. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Allan died on Monday, September 15, 2014 at his home in Framnas Township. He lived to reach the age of 76 years.
