Arnold Naig

Arnold was born in Paulina, Iowa, to Peter and Anna (Hanson) Naig, on March 25, 1914 and he was baptized on April 26, 1914. he was baptized. The family moved to Holstein, Iowa, then to Pope County, Minnesota. He was confirmed at the East Zion Lutheran Church on October 14, 1928 by Reverend K.R. Palmer. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He served in the CCC from 1931 to 1933 at Hoveland, Minnesota. Arnold was united in marriage to Hazel Lorraine Hendrickson on September 17, 1939 at the East and West Zion Church Parsonage by Reverend K. R. Palmer. To this union five children were born. They farmed in Langhei Township; Arnold loved his cattle and horses. The couple moved to Starbuck in 1975. Several winters Arnold and Lorraine vacationed with their son, David, in Phoenix, AZ.

Arnold was a member of West Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council; he was a member of Happy Hoofers Saddle Club, Farmers Union, National Farmers Organization and 4-H leader for the Langhei Aces 4-H Club. He enjoyed woodworking-making shelves, quilt stands and parts for model farm toys for TJ Vintage, Incorporated in Starbuck.

Arnold died on Sunday, November 4, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 93 years.

He is survived by his wife: Lorraine Naig of Starbuck; three sons: Keith (Carol) Naig of Clontarf, Charles (Nancy) Naig of Elk River and Jim (Carol) Naig of Starbuck; one daughter: Linda (Kent) Trask of Kansas City, MO; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: David; siblings: Orpha Evjen Irrthum, Arlene Maanum, Myrtle Monson, Burdette Naig and Bernice Strom.

Pallbearers for the service are: Tad Naig, John Naig, Corey Naig, Matt Crosby and Nate Crosby. Honorary pallbearers are Arnold's grandchildren: Krista, Jana, Nissa, Annette, Leah and Heather; step-grandchildren: Sheldon, Kristin, Karin and Brian and 21 great-grandchildren. Ben Jeitz will serve as organist and soloist, being accompanied by Norma Jeitz for the service. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
