Augusta Jorgenson

July 9, 1921 — March 28, 2006

Augusta Bernice "Gussie" Long, daughter of Fred and Julia (Burklan) Long, was born July 9, 1921 in Stevens County, Minnesota. She grew up and received her schooling in Synnes Township near Alberta, MN. On March 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Milias "Shorty" Jorgenson in Sisseton, SD. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed in the Alberta area. On December 2, 1954, they moved into Morris, where they lived the rest of their married life. After moving to Morris, she also became active in the Morris VFW Auxiliary. Shorty died on January 18, 2003. Augusta has continued to live in Morris since that time.

Gussie loved flowers, especially roses, and she always enjoyed working in her flower garden, working in her yard and watching and feeding the birds. She will also be remembered for baking the world's best cookies, especially sugar and oatmeal raisin. Most of all, Gussie loved it when her family would all gather together, and she always enjoyed all the laughter that was shared.

Gussie died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.

She is survived by four children: PattyAnn (Robert) Giese of Shakopee, Carolin (Dallas) Pillen of Chokio, Jenett (Dave) Rortvedt of Morris and Dennis (Peggy) Jorgenson of Mankato; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Susan Southwell; one son: Donald Jorgenson; two grandchildren: Dawn Marie Giese and Travis Jorgenson; her parents and 9 brothers and sisters.
