Avis Minners

November 27, 1926 — July 11, 2014

Avis Minners, long time resident of Beardsley and Morris, MN, joined Jesus on Friday July 11th, 2014 at Comforts of Home in Hudson, WI, having lived to reach the age of 87 years. Her husband Leonard, as usual, had been waiting quite a while for her. Visitation will be held Friday July 18th, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church at 315 S Columbia Ave, Morris, MN 56267 starting at 9 AM until the service at 11 AM. A
luncheon will be served following the service in the church dining room. Rev. Carlton Anderson and Rev. Gary Brooks (formerly of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beardsley and Zion Lutheran Church in
Browns Valley, MN) will be officiating. Burial will be in Holden Cemetery south of Beardsley later in the afternoon.

Avis Jeanette Herberg was born November 27, 1926 at the Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN to John Herberg (formerly Knutson) and Anna Olaphina Herberg (formerly Peterson). Avis was baptized and confirmed at Holden Lutheran Church, Beardsley, MN and received her diploma from Beardsley High School graduating in 1944 where she was active in cheerleading and musical groups including sextets. She married Leonard Minners on June 16th 1945. To this union three children were born; Anita, David, and Jon Scott. Avis also helped raise and care for extended family members including her niece Loreen Bergman who recently passed.
Leonard and Avis farmed south of Beardsley beginning in 1945. They enjoyed traveling as a family and spent several winter months in California and Minneapolis. Avis was very proud of holding numerous jobs, some of which included secretary, organist and choir director. Avis' passion for music was a focus throughout her life as she contributed to a large variety of church activities, teaching children, and caring for others. She taught piano lessons in Beardsley and Morris most of her life and was a member of the Ecumenical singers in Beardsley and Sweet Adelines in Milbank, SD. Avis had an amazing
ability to play on the piano any song she heard only once. Her favorite hobby was writing music including her own versions of the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm.

She is survived by her daughter Anita (Gary) Kopitzke of Sleepy Eye, MN, son David (Dorothy) Minners of Morris, MN and son Jon Scott (Coriene) Case-Minners of Hudson, WI, four grandchildren, Christian
Kopitzke, Kimberly Kopitzke, Troy (Beth) Minners and Jamey (Holly) Minners; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Allison, Kayla from Jamey's family and Jase from Troy's family and many cousins, nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents and all of her eight siblings Oscar Herberg, Carl Herberg, Harold Herberg, Bjarne Herberg, Orville Herberg, Arnold Herberg, Olga
(Isaksen), Judith Herberg.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
