Betty Schultz

Mary Elizabeth McNally, daughter of Cornelius and Marie (Minehan) McNally, was born April 7, 1928 in Lisbon, North Dakota. She was baptized on April 28, 1928 at St. Aloyisus Church in Lisbon and confirmed May 12, 1942 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo, North Dakota. At the age of four the family moved to Brainerd, MN where Betty began her schooling at St. Francis School. When she was ten they moved to Fargo where Betty went to school at St. Mary's and later attended and graduated in 1946 from Sacred Heart Academy High School. She continued her education at Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing until 1950, when she attended one year at the University of Minnesota. Betty continued to live in Fargo where she worked at St. John's Hospital for two years and then worked as a Public Health Nurse for the City of Fargo for nine years. On July 15, 1961, she was united in marriage to Julian "Spike" Schultz at St. Mary's Cathedral in Fargo, ND. Spike and Betty made their home in Morris where they raised their family.

Betty was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris where she was active in Christian Mothers and St. Martins Mission Group. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques, reading and volunteering. She especially cherished the time she spent with family and friends.

Betty died on Monday, February 12, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, having lived to reach the age of 78 years.

She is survived by her husband: Julian "Spike" Schultz of Morris; two children: Beth (Doug) Munson of Edina and Lee Schultz (and special friend: Molly Van Daele) of DeWitt, IA; four step-children: John (Dee) Schultz of Morris, Julie Opland of Minneapolis, Kathryn (Ron) Raasch of Fergus Falls and Peg (Jim) Wellendorf of Morris; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two step-sons: Tom and David Schultz and four brothers: Paul, Alex, Raymond and Patrick McNally.

Pallbearers for the service are Betty's grandsons: John Schultz, Jason Schultz, Rob Opland, Mike Opland, Jeremy Schultz, Branden Schultz, Darren Schultz, Erik Raasch, Derek Larson, Ben Wellendorf and Michael Munson. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service with Ken Hodgson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
