Brian Brummond

Brian Curtis Brummond, son of Curtis “Bud” and Elizabeth (Boldt) Brummond, was born September 18, 1959 in Breckenridge , Minnesota , where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1978. Brian continued his education at Brown Institute in Minneapolis , graduating in 1979 with a degree in Radio Broadcasting. On August 16, 1980, he was united in marriage to Diana Friederichs at St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church in Foxhome , MN . Brian’s work as a radio announcer took them to a variety of communities, including Moorhead , Glyndon, Mayville , ND , Redwood Falls and then moving to Morris in 1995. In 1991, Brian was the recipient of a broadcasting award from the North Dakota Coaches Association. He began working as an on the air personality for KMRS/KKOK, where he was a familiar voice on the morning radio show and also worked as the sports director. In 2000, he took a job as the Sports Information Director for the University of Minnesota , Morris, where he continued to work until the time of his death.

Brian was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends, he loved following sports, riding horse and spending time on his “ranch”. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and wonderful friend.

In August of 2007, Brian learned that he had been diagnosed with cancer and that he had the battle of his life ahead of him. After courageously fighting for many months, Brian’s battle ended on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris , Minnesota . He had lived to reach the age of 49 years.

He is survived by his wife: Diana Brummond of Chokio; four children: Tony Brummond of Alexandria, Josh (fiancé: Karla) of Alexandria, Stephanie (Ben) Wolden of Fergus Falls and Mary (Cole) Swenson of Morris; 3 grandchildren: Grace and Taylor Brummond, Morgan Swenson and one on the way; his mother: Elizabeth Brummond of Breckenridge; one brother: Scott (Liz) Brummond of Raleigh, NC; mother-in-law: Mary Lou Friederichs of Doran and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father: Curtis Brummond; one brother: Kevin Brummond and father-in-law: John Friederichs.
