A devoted wife and mother, expert weaver and homemaker, Carol Berg passed away on May 28 in St. Paul after an extended illness. Berg and her husband, the late Charles A. Berg, were lifelong residents of West Central Minnesota.

She was born Carol Janet Lamb on July 24, 1928 to Gladys and Alex Lamb in Motley, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in Motley and high school in Morris at the West Central School of Agriculture, where she graduated with honors in 1945. Following graduation she was employed as a faculty stenographer at WCSA for two years. She was baptized and confirmed as an adult at the First Lutheran Church in Morris.

Carol married Charles Berg on January 4, 1948 at Staples, Minnesota. They were married for 66 years and lived north of Chokio, where they bought farmland in Stevens and Traverse Counties. They raised four daughters and three sons. After retiring from farming, they continued to live on the farm.

Charlie served in the Minnesota Senate for 26 years, during which time they lived part of the year in St. Paul and part of the year on the farm. Carol was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. Carol was active in arts organizations and was a long-time member of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota. She was a member and served as president for eight years of the Dome Club, an organization of spouses of legislators, constitutional officers and Supreme Court justices of Minnesota. She was also a member of the Senate Club.

In her last years, Carol resided at the Keystone Assisted Living Center in St. Paul, where she received loving care from the staff and enjoyed hosting family and friends over meals, card and board games, concerts and other activities. She maintained her positive attitude and an interest in the arts, especially decorating.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Dennis, and a sister, Alice. She is survived by daughters Bonnie Berg, Laurie Berg and husband John Connolly, Marla Berg and husband John Greely, all of Juneau, Alaska; Dixie and husband Tim Lippert of Easton, Minnesota; and sons Charles Jr. and wife Dana of Lindstrom, Minnesota; Colin and wife Ronda of Olivia, Minnesota; and Adam and wife Jami Eistetter of Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by sisters Verva Kristenson of Motley; Joice Coone of Vancouver, Washington; Janice and husband Roger Herringshaw of Prudenceville, Michigan; Sharon Lamb of St. Paul; and a brother, Ward Lamb, of Juneau. She also had 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests donations in Carol's name can be made to the Charles and Carol Berg Scholarship Fund at the University of Minnesota-Morris, the Morris Food Bank or a charity of choice.

Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
