Clara Lawson

July 21, 1917 — February 15, 2008

Clara Bertha Amanda (Toop) Lawson was born July 21, 1917 in Stevens County near Morris, Minnesota to her parents, Fred and Emma Toop. She attended school at District 16 in Stevens County. She married Russel Lawson December 4, 1935. The couple farmed first in Montana for one year, before moving back to Minnesota, where they farmed near Alberta, Elbow Lake, Kensington and Cyrus. In 1961, they purchased a gas station-cafAC. in Kensington, which they operated until they retired. Retirement was spent in Cyrus and Morris.



Clara has a 25 year certificate as RSVP Volunteer which included driving patients to doctor visits, helping at the thrift store and the Stevens County Hospital. Some of her most rewarding times were when she was assisting others. She was a very active long time member at the Alberta Church of the Nazarene where she served in many capacities including Sunday School Superintendent and Mission Society President. She leaves a legacy of unwavering faith and devotion to God. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends.



Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Clara was 90 years old when she passed away on February 15, 2008 at Homestead of McKinney Nursing Home, McKinney, TX where she lived the last 2A½ years after the passing of her husband, Russel.



She is survived by her seven children, Mertondale Lawson and wife, Betty, of Wamic, OR; Darlene Jones and husband, Roger, of Gilbert, AZ; Iola Duncan and husband, Richard, of Flower Mound, TX; Fayrine Nutting and husband, Rodney, of Sitka, AK; Paulette Stiegelmeyer and husband, David, of McKinney, TX; Laura Thompson and husband, Dennis, of Pilot Point, TX; and Lanette Rodriguez and husband, George, of Plano, TX.



Other survivors include one sister, Gertrud Stewart of McGregor, MN; one brother, Merton Toop of Zillah, WA; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many other family members and friends.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Russel, her parents, Fred and Emma Toop, three sisters, two brothers, one grandchild and one great grandchild.



Pallbearers for the service are Clara's grandchildren: Mike Lawson, Kelly Lawson, Gerlad Jones, Jason Stiegelmeyer, Julian Rodriguez and Carmen Rodriguez. Carol Albert will serve as organist for the service with Richard Duncan serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
