Darlene Gunderson

October 31, 1936 — October 22, 2009

Darlene Joanne Sjolsvold, daughter of Albert and Verna (Seaverson) Sjolsvold, was born October 31, 1936 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Darlene’s family lived on a farm in rural Thief River Falls, until they moved into Thief River Falls. Darlene met David Gunderson while they both were working at the S&L Store in Thief River Falls. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1957 in Thief River Falls by Reverend Peterson. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Thief River Falls for a short while before David was transferred to various places because of his job with S&L. In 1964, the couple and their children moved to Morris, where David managed the S&L and Stevenson Stores and Darlene worked for Gillis’ Variety Store. David died on October 30, 2004. Darlene has continued to make her home in Morris since that time.

Darlene was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris, where she was an active member of the ladies aide. When Darlene’s children were small, she was very active with the boy scouts and girl scouts. She loved gardening and was always working on a craft project. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends.

Darlene died on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, having lived to reach the age of 72 years.

She is survived by her children: Richard (Linda) Gunderson of Fargo, ND, Mark Gunderson of Morris and Mary Gunderson of Willmar; two grandchildren: Lithe Gunderson of St. Cloud and Lukas Gunderson of Long Island, NY and her puppy companion: Lady Gunderson. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter: Renee; her parents and one sister: Betty.

Honorary pallbearers for the service are all of Darlene’s friends in attendance. Deb Mahoney will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
