Dominic Nigro

Dominick Charles “Jun” Nigro, Jr, son of Dominick and Catherine (Petrino) Nigro, was born January 31, 1926 in Buffalo, New York, where he grew up on 380 Maryland Street. He was baptized on April 30, 1926 and confirmed at a later date at Holy Cross R. C. Church in Buffalo . Dominick’s father immigrated to the United States from Italy and Dominic was always very proud of his Italian heritage. He attended grade school and high school in Buffalo , graduating from High School in 1944. Following his schooling, Dominick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving in WWII. While serving, he was injured in 1946 and received an honorable discharge. Following his military discharge, Dominick continued his education at UCLA, where he graduated with honors in 1950. Over the years, Dominick lived and worked in many different places. In 1952 to 1957, he worked at the Air Force Depot; 1957 to 1966, Computer Technology, Sales and Systems Engineer; 1975 to 1980, Owner of a wholesale Distribution Company in California; 1980 to 1987, Real Estate Agent and Tax Consultant in California; 1987 to 1988 a Loan Agent with a bank in California; 1990 to 1991, Vocational Counseling Services to Veterans in Hawaii and 1992 to 2004, he worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Arizona. On February 14, 1989, he was united in marriage to Katherine Ehlers in Sedona, Arizona by Reverend Peggy Van Verch. The couple lived in Hawaii and Arizona, where Dominick was working at the time. In 2006, they moved to Minnesota, where they continued to live until the time of his death.

Dominick was a member of the National Council of Exchangers-NCE (Real Estate), The Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW, American Legion and AARP. He enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening and working on the computer. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Dominick died on May 11, 2010 at his home in Morris, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his wife: Katherine Nigro of Morris; three daughters: Dianne Nigro of Almere-Haven, The Netherlands, Claire Lynn (Lance) Castille of Phnom Penh, Cambodia and Angela (Edward) Shaw of Charlottsville, VA; four grandchildren: Kajsa deHaan (William Puijk) of the Netherlands, Elainique deHaan of The Netherlands, Philip Shaw and David Shaw of Charlottsville, VA; one great-granddaughter: Sydney Puijk of The Netherlands. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Mary, Louis, Margaret, Joseph, Rose, Phyllis, Nicholas, and Dick.
