Donald Bengston

February 16, 1929 — May 3, 2007

Donald LeRoy Bengston was born February 16, 1929 in Pepperton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota to Emil and Mabel (Eddy) Bengston. He attended school at District #59 and the Alberta High School, where he received his GED in 1954, while in the Army. Donald worked on the family farm, before entering the United States Army on November 15, 1952, spending nine months in Germany. Following his discharge on October 29, 1954, he went to Minneapolis, where he worked as a mechanic for the Suburban Bus Company and later at the Downtown Chevrolet Company.

On January 29, 1955, he was married to Ruth Kussatz of Donnelly, MN at the Pepperton Methodist Church. They made their home in Minneapolis for eight years. In 1963, they came back to Morris and took over the Bengston family farm. They farmed until 1995, when Donald retired and continued to live on the farm until October of 2004, when they moved to Morris.

Donald was a life member of the VFW Post #5039 in Morris. He was also a member of the NRA and the Morris Rifle Club. For many years he served as clerk of Pepperton Township and also served on the ASCS Board. Donald's hobbies were going to sales and flea markets and finding old tools and fixing them up. He enjoyed spending time in his shop on the farm and spending time walking with his two faithful companions Bear and Buddy.
