Donald Riley

September 18, 1921 — March 13, 2009

Donald James Riley, son of William and Mabel (Brouillet) Riley, was born September 18, 1921 on the home farm in Stevens County, Minnesota. Don grew up on the farm and received his education at St. Mary’s School in Morris. After completing the 8 th grade, Don was needed on the family farm, and began working full time with his father, eventually taking over the farming operation. On September 25, 1946, he was united in marriage to Eileen Ritter in Chokio , Minnesota . Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Riley farm, where they lived and farmed until 1992, when they retired and moved into Morris. This was the first time that Don had lived anywhere other than the Riley home farm. They made their home in Morris until Eileen’s death on February 5, 2004. At that time, Don moved to Benson , Minnesota to be closer to his family, where he remained until the time of his death.

Donald was a life-long member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he had been an active member of the Knights of Columbus and was always a dedicated supporter of the church and its various activities. Some of Don’s favorite hobbies included gardening, fishing, pheasant hunting, riding horse, playing cards with family and friends, playing his harmonica and trapping mink and muskrat. Most of all, Don treasured the time he was able to spend with his family.

Donald died on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Southview Manor in Benson , Minnesota , having lived to reach the age of 87 years.
