Dorothy Kill

August 18, 1927 — April 6, 2008

Dorothy Anna Roberts, daughter of Henry and Anna (Heidecker) Roberts, was born August 18, 1927 in Graceville, Minnesota, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Graceville High School in 1945. She continued her education at secretarial school in Fargo, North Dakota, where she also learned her beautiful handwriting. Following her schooling, she worked as a telephone operator in Morris, until her marriage to Joe Kill on September 9, 1947. Following their marriage, the couple farmed and raised their five children near Morris. They retired from farming in 1991 and moved to Morris.

Dorothy was a member and past President of the Morris American Legion Auxiliary #29, for which she received a "45" year membership pin. She volunteered over 2000 hours sewing for our veterans. She was a member of the Stevens County Genealogy Society, where she volunteered many hours at the Genealogy room at the Morris Public Library. This interest in genealogy led her to help compile both the Roberts and Kill family histories. Dorothy enjoyed being outdoors, especially tending her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a talented seamstress, creating numerous quilts, rugs and clothing. She tatted intricate and beautiful items. She loved traveling and camping with her family. Dorothy was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan. During her years on the farm, she was involved in all aspects of farm life, including chores and field work. Her family was her joy in life, especially her two young granddaughters, Shannon and Callista. She always looked forward to her son, Joe's, daily visits for lunch.

Dorothy died on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Providence Health Care Center in Waco, Texas, where she had been in the loving care of her daughter, Charlotte and son-in-law, Kevin Barnes. She lived to reach the age of 80 years.

She is survived by five children: Julene (Paul) DeZeeuw of Montevideo, Lucille Barnes of Golden, CO, Charlotte (Kevin) Barnes of Waco, TX, Norbert Kill of Bloomington and Joe (Julie) Kill of Donnelly; seven grandchildren: Jim (Janelle) DeZeeuw, Jennifer (Steve) Lee, Jared DeZeeuw, Lisa (Bill) DeWitt, Kriste Barnes (fiancAC.
