Dorothy Stammer

July 27, 1921 — April 2, 2007

Dorothy Elaine Burke, daughter of Allen and Emily (McManus) Burke, was born July 27, 1921 in Bancroft, Nebraska, where she grew up and was baptized at Bancroft Presbyterian Church. She attended and graduated in 1939 from Bancroft High School. Dorothy continued her education at Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE, graduating in 1943. Following college, she taught school in western Nebraska for several years. She then moved home to work in her father's law office. On December 30, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Stammer at Bancroft Presbyterian Church by Reverend Harold Snow. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Lyons, Nebraska until 1957, when they moved to a farm between Cyrus and Starbuck. In 1959, they moved to a farm north of Starbuck until 1970, when they moved into Starbuck. After moving to Starbuck, Dorothy worked at various cafes, retiring in 1986. Dorothy and Bob have continued to make their home in Starbuck since that time.





Dorothy was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck, where she belonged to WELCA and was treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary Chapter #0325, where she was the poppe sales chairman for many years and a member of the Minnewaska Chapter #129 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, embroidery and fishing. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.





Dorothy died on Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.





She is survived by her husband: Robert Stammer of Starbuck; two sons: John (Kathy) Stammer of Starbuck and David Stammer of Starbuck; one daughter: Roberta (Doug) Kuhnau of Farwell; six grandchildren: Renee (Hans) Helgenset of Benson, Katie Stammer (Andy Christensen) of St. Paul, Steven (Megan) Kuhnau of East Bethel, Jon (Kristina) Kuhnau of Alexandria, Neil (Kati) Kuhnau of Watertown and Bradley Kuhnau of Farewell; five great-grandchildren: Jack Helgenset, Elaina & Adrianna Kuhnau, Audrey Kuhnau and Andrew Kuhnau. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Hyle Burke; one sister: Margaret Hinman and granddaughter: Melissa Stammer.





Pallbearers for the service are Dorothy's grandchildren: Renee Helgenset, Katie Stammer, Steven Kuhnau, Jon Kuhnau, Neil Kuhnau and Bradley Kuhnau. Honorary pallbearers are the American Legion Auxiliary. Dee Syverson will serve as organist for the service with Sylvia Gunderson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
