Duane Solvie

December 5, 1935 — November 24, 2007

Duane Allen Solvie, son of Raymond and Marion (Halverson) Solvie, was born December 5, 1935 in New Prairie Township in Pope County, Minnesota. Dewey was baptized January 1936 and confirmed in May, 1949 at what is now Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. He grew up in the Cyrus area, where he began his schooling, graduating from Cyrus High School in 1953. He continued his education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. On February 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jo Fox at First Lutheran Church in Morris. The couple made their home in Morris, where they raised their three children, while he worked the family farm, before retiring in the late 1980's. He then worked for the Stevens County Highway Department for ten years. Dewey couldn't retire totally so he drove truck part-time for Westmor Industries in Morris and helped out at Engebretson Sanitary Disposal.

Dewey was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris. He was also a member of the Shriners, Morris Jaycees and the Eagles. Dewey collected many buttons and pins from all the areas he traveled. He enjoyed playing cards, gambling, shooting pool, golfing, fishing, bird watching, gardening and tending to his roses. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was happiest watching his grandchildren growing up and watching them play sports, especially hockey. Dewey looked forward every winter to spending time in Arizona with his son and many friends.

Duane died on Friday, November 23, 2007 at his home in Morris after a brief struggle with cancer. He lived to reach the age of 71 years 11 months and 18 days.
