Duane Lee Sprouls, son of Lee and Victoria (Veile) Sprouls, was born March 3, 1928 in Donnelly Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. Following his schooling, he worked with his brother, Nels on harvesting crews. On September 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Kopel. Duane worked at the Farmers Elevator, Ind. OTR Trucking, managed the Farwell Elevator and returned to dispatching at the Farmers Elevator in Kensington. He retired from the elevator in 2000.

Since retirement didn't suit Duane, in his spare time, he drove beet, gravel and grain trucks. He was always busy with his civic duties as Mayor and charitable organizations such as, Chief of the fire department, volunteer driver and Knights of Columbus. He held many offices in the Lions Organization, including District Governor, where he received the Melvin Jones Award. He also served on the Economic Development Committee and the Kensington/Farwell Water District. Duane was a very active member of the Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church. His pride and joy was the Kensington Community Center, where he was very instrumental in its development.
