Elmira Christianson

August 7, 1917 — November 12, 2008

Elmira Winifred Hansen, daughter of Wallace and Laura (Anderson) Hansen, was born August 7, 1917 in Hendricks, Minnesota. She was baptized on September 12, 1920. Elmira grew up in rural Farwell, where she attended school and received her High School Diploma. On September 18, 1937, she was united in marriage to Obert Ellend Christianson. The couple lived in rural Cyrus, where they farmed, raised dairy cows and chickens. Elmira also did daycare for Mark, Greg and Lisa.




Elmira was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, Lincoln Lutheran Church in Hoffman, the American Legion and the Sew'n Eat Quilt Club. She enjoyed quilting, reading and collecting thimbles and dolls. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.




Elmira died on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center in Hoffman, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 91 years.




She is survived by her five children: Donna Emmert of Hoffman, Eugene (Sheilah) Christianson of Princeton, Marvae (Dick) Engebretson of Starbuck, Pamela (Gladwin) Beyer of Hoffman and Mary (Dale) Knabe of rural Kensington; 16 grandchildren: Laura (Steve) Ziemer, Jay (Roxanne) Emmert, Lisa (Brad) Spencer, Kyle (Lisa) Engebretson, Robin (Dale) Sterzinger, Stacey (Tammy) Beyer, Scot (Mindy) Beyer, Sheri Beyer, Craig (Joanne) Christianson, Shayla Christianson, Gina (Rick) Walstad, Tracie Christianson, Kellan (Keli) Christianson, Corey (Brooke) Knabe, Casey (Heather) Knabe and Chelsey (Adam) Johnson; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Bernice Burton of Cherry Valley, CA and Frances Christianson of Hastings. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Wayne Christianson and four brothers: Myron, Vincent, Harvey and Roger Hansen.




Pallbearers for the service are Elmira’s grandsons: Corey Knabe, Casey Knabe, Kyle Engebretson, Scot Beyer, Stacey Beyer, Kellan Christianson, Jay Emmert and Elmira’s nephews: Mark Christianson and Greg Christianson. Honorary pallbearers are Elmira’s granddaughters: Laura Ziemer, Lisa Spencer, Robin Sterzinger, Sheri Beyer, Shayla Christianson, Gina Walstad, Tracie Christianson and Chelsey Johnson. Diane Hanse will serve as organist for the service Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
