Elsie Mickelson

August 19, 1921 — June 23, 2009

Elsie Holten, daughter of Thom and Annie (Haugen) Holten, was born August 19, 1921 in New Solem Township in Marshall County, Minnesota. Elsie was baptized and confirmed at Rindal Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm near Viking, Minnesota and attended Columbus Country School in New Solem Township. On September 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Otto Norman Mickelson at Rindal Lutheran Church, near Thief River Falls, Minnesota by Reverend Jonas Helland. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in the Cyrus area, where they farmed and raised dairy cows. Elsie also raised chickens. They retired from farming in 1972 but remained on the farm. Otto died on June 17, 1996. Elsie remained on the farm until February of 2007, when she moved to the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, MN, where she continued to live until the time of her death.




Elsie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, Minnesota, where she was a member of the Woman’s Group. She enjoyed rug weaving, crocheting and baking. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends.




Elsie died on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Glenwood Retirement Home in Glenwood, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.




She is survived by two sons: LeRoy Mickelson of Cyrus and Vernon Mickelson of Cyrus; two sisters-in-law: Ethel Holten of Farmington and Deloris Holten of Thief River Falls and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers: Albin, Theodore, Goodwin and Eddlin; two infant brothers: three sisters: Alma Lull, Bertha Holten and Inga Holten; one half sister: Esther Holien; one half brother: Sigvart Holten; one sister-in-law: Margaret Holten and two brothers-in-law: Frank Lull and Bill Lull.




Pallbearers for the service are: Lennie Solvie, Joel Mickelson, Erland Mickelson, Melloy Flaten, Norman Nissen and John Boon. Diane Hanse will serve as organist for the service with Jere Solvie serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
