Florence Otters

Florence Kent Otters was born to William and Catherine Kent in Waucoma, Iowa, on July 10, 1903. She was a member of the Federated Church in Waucoma and attended Waucoma Public Schools, where she graduated High School in 1921. Florence attended Iowa State Teachers? College and became certified to teach elementary school. She subsequently taught school at the one room school in Eden, IA. On August 1, 1924, she was united in marriage to Clarence Roosevelt Otters, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and she was also baptized on that same day. Following their marriage the couple moved to Chicago, IL. Florence was confirmed at Our Savior?s Lutheran Church in Chicago and later became a member of Edison Park Lutheran Church. There she taught Sunday school for ten years, worked as the leader of the Blue Birds and Campfire Girls, served on the altar guild and participated in various other organizations.

Florence and Clarence moved to Texas in 1971, to California in 1974 and to Iowa in 1975, where they became members of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Because of her work at Zion, Florence was given a special senior citizen?s award. Clarence died in 1976. Florence moved to Minnesota in 1988, where she became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. In 1977, she moved to Holly Ridge Manor in Starbuck and then to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in 2000, where she has continued to live until the time of her death.

Florence died on Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 101 years.

She is survived by two daughters: Rosalie (Donald) Rosholt of Cyrus and Beverly (Harold) Pearson of Hide-a-way, TX; ten grandchildren: Donnis Tolle, David Rosholt, John Rosholt, Linda Hash, James Pearson, Thomas Pearson, Robert Pearson, Mary Bishop, Sherry Pudelik and Michael Otters; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister: Kathryn Wagner and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son: Allen; one grandson: Paul Rosholt; one great-granddaughter: Molly Rosholt; her parents; two brothers: Harold and Kenneth Kent; one sister: Lillian Vick and one niece: Jacqueline Whitehouse.

Pallbearers for the service are Florence?s grandsons: David Rosholt, John Rosholt, James Pearson, Thomas Pearson, Robert Pearson and Michael Otters. Gorden Thompson will serve as organist for the service with Florence?s granddaughters, Donnis, Mary, Sherry and Linda providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
