Forest Engebretson

Funeral services for Forest Engebretson of Cyrus, MN will be held Monday, September 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, MN. Minister Minette Stalheim Johnson will be officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in St. Petri Cemetery in Cyrus. Military Rites will be provided by Morris American Legion, V.F.W. & AmVets.

Forest Engebretson, son of Bernie and Myrtle (Larson) Engebretson, was born March 6, 1929 in Starbuck, Minnesota, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. He grew up in the Starbuck and Cyrus areas, attending country school thru the 8th grade and later attending Cyrus Public School. In 1947, Forest enlisted in the United States Army, serving for four years, before receiving an honorable discharge in 1951. Following his discharge, he moved back to the family farm. On September 10, 1954, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Showalter. The couple built a new house on the family farm, where they continued to farm with Forest's family. He retired in 1991 and continued to live on the farm until the time of his death.

Forest was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where he served on the church council; the Morris American Legion, serving as a color guard; the New Prairie Township Board and the Flying Famers. He enjoyed traveling all over the world in his plane with his wife, Norma. He especially enjoyed camping in the summer with all of their friends.

Forest died on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Courage Cottage in Morris, having lived to the age of 85 years.

He is survived by his wife Norma Engebretson of Cyrus; his three dogs: Smokey, Moses and Whitney; one brother: Courtney (Carol) Engebretson of Starbuck; one sister: Maurine Aslakson of Hancock; several nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Avonell Raaum and her daughter: Nancy.
