Frank Messner

Frank Messner was born in Lyon County, Iowa, on August 4, 1914, son of Henry and Ricka (Spohr) Messner. In 1925, the family moved to a farm near Hancock, where Frank attended School District #45. Frank’s father died in 1928. Frank did farm work and trapping. He later did farm work in Winthrop, MN and Lester, Iowa. In 1938, he moved with his mother and two brothers into Hancock. The most important event in his life was his conversion. Frank repented and was later baptized and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in July of 1939.




On July 19, 1942, he was united in marriage to Gladys Schmidgall. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Following their marriage, Frank went into the trucking business, where he hauled livestock and concrete products. Frank and Gladys lived in the Hancock area until 2006, when they moved to Sky View Court in Morris due to Frank’s health. Frank entered West Wind Village in March of 2008.




Frank enjoyed walking, hunting, fishing, traveling with his family when his children were young and going south in his retirement years. He enjoyed God’s rich blessings with his precious family and his beloved church family.




Frank died on Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 94 years.




He is survived by his w ife: Gladys Messner of Morris; three sons: Sidney (Cheryl) Messner of Hancock, Beirne (Joyce) Messner of Hancock and Henry (Charlene) Messner of Lester, IA; one daughter: Beverly Minke of Hancock; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandsons: Ben, Nathan and Luke Messner; four brothers: Richard, Carl, Arthur and Louie Messner; two sisters: Minnie Nohl and Harriet Reber; two nephews: Donald Reber and Gary Messner and one niece: Sharon Messner.




Pallbearers for the service are Frank’s grandsons: Ryan Messner, Quinn Messner, Alex Messner, Ken Messner, Chris Minke, Jon Minke, Nick Messner, Daniel Messner and Paul Messner. The Apostolic Christian Church Choir will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
