Frank Snorek

Frank Joseph Snorek, son of Frank Sr. and Edna (Haugen) Snorek, was born November 24, 1922 in Morris , Minnesota . He grew up in Morris and received his schooling at St. Mary’s School, graduating in 1942 from Morris High School. On January 22, 1940, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his service in WWII, Frank’s unit served in the combat zones in Northern France . Following his honorable discharge, Frank continued to serve his country through his enlistment in the National Guard, with his final honorable discharge taking place in December 1967.





After his discharge from the Army, Frank returned to Morris, where he worked a wide variety of jobs over the next several years. From 1947 to 1950, Frank worked as a gas engine repair man at the Home Building Company in Morris. In 1957, he began working for Unger Furniture, a job he continued at until retiring in 1981. During that time, he also worked for several years as a pinsetter and janitor at the Lakeview Lanes Bowling Alley. After retiring, Frank continued to live in Morris where he was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, as well as the Morris VFW and American Legion. In 2004, he moved to the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud , where he has lived since that time.





Some of Frank’s favorite hobbies included bowling, dancing and watching football and basketball. He will also be remembered for his dedication to raising and lowering the American Flag every day for the entire time that he lived at the Key Row Apartments in Morris.





Frank died on Monday, December 28, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud , MN , having lived to reach the age of 87 years.





He is survived by two nieces: Gloria (Delroy) Heuer of Morris and Donna (Barry) Gades of Morris; one nephew: Gordon (Jane) Harstad of Morris and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew: Duane Harstad; two sisters: Evelyn Harstad and Lucille Hess and one brother: Walter Snorek.





Pallbearers for the service will be “All of Frank’s Nieces and Nephews”. Linda Hodgson will serve as pianist for the service, with Ken Hodgson serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
