Gordon Strommen

April 19, 1926 — October 1, 2009

Gordon Kenneth Strommen, son of Oscar and Mabel (Halvorson) Strommen, was born April 19, 1926 in Glenwood Township in Pope County, Minnesota. He grew up in the Glenwood area, where he attended Country School. He was baptized at the Glenwood Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Barsness Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Following his schooling, Gordon enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for the next two years. Following his honorable discharge, he worked in the Cities, before returning home to farm. Gordon then started trucking and later worked with the area farmers. On March 3, 1973 he was united in marriage to Grace Kluver Gades. Following their marriage, Gordon and Grace continued living in the Starbuck area. Gordon worked as a Wal-Mart greeter for several years, before retiring.




Gordon was a member of the Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.




Gordon died on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood, Minnesota, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.




He is survived by his wife: Grace Strommen of Glenwood; four children: David Strommen of St. Cloud, Duane Strommen of Monticello, Marlane (Jerry) Neuman of St. Louis Park and Fay Ann (Jerry) Dahlseng of Starbuck; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harold (Delores) Strommen of Glenwood and Roger (Ardyce) Strommen of Monticello; two sisters: Pat (Frank) Kalina of Albertville and Helen Svor of Benson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister: Ione and one brother-in-law: Walter Svor.




Pallbearers for the service are: Steve Svor, Warren Svor, Brian Strommen, Kim Norgren, Nancy Strommen and Lonnie Strommen. Honorary pallbearers are: Chris Dahlseng, Lucas Dahlseng, Traci Neuman, John Neuman, Daran Strommen, Justin Strommen and Brett Strommen. Delores Strommen will serve as organist for the service, with Doris Anderson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
