Harold Hruby

May 14, 1911 — February 3, 2008

Harold Carl Hruby, son of Ed and Clara (Hilker) Hruby, was born May 14, 1911 in Morris, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm on Yankee Ridge Road and received his education at the Morris High School and the West Central School of Agriculture, where he participated in numerous sports. Following his schooling, Harold served in the Minnesota National Guard, where he played basketball with Company K.

On April 4, 1937, he was united in marriage to Emelia Mickelson on the Mickelson farm south of Cyrus. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Morris on East 8th Street, where they were blessed to have spent 63 years together and raise their two children, James and LeAnn. Harold worked for North American Creameries, Richard Produce and he owned and operated the Sugar Bowl Restaurant. He then went to work for 25 years at the Morris School District as a custodian and bus driver, allowing him to enjoy and be a big fan for all school sports. After his retirement he sold memorial monuments and worked at Engebretson Sanitary Landfill. Harold moved to West Wind Village in Morris two years ago, after spending 66 years in his home in Morris.

Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris, as usher and a member of the men's club; the Morris Fireman Department for 30 years, a lifetime member of the Morris Eagles and he served as president of the Morris Eagles Baseball Club in earlier days. Harold's love of watching the Minnesota Twins was a big highlight in his life, along with playing cards, playing pool and the special enjoyment of his grandchildren's activities. Harold really enjoyed life - always. He had a smile and something to say - always. What Harold enjoyed most, was spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially holidays and special events, where he was always a joker.

Harold died on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 96 years, 8 months and 20 days.
