Hazel Cunningham

July 9, 1909 — October 20, 2007

Hazel Cunningham, daughter of Guy and Lillian (Snow) Stonecipher was born on July 9, 1909 in Fulton, SD, where she grew up and was educated. She was united in marriage on January 4, 1927 in Mitchell, SD to James Thomas Cunningham. The couple first lived near Fulton, SD before moving to Waubon, MN. In 1943 they relocated to Clinton, MN and then in the late 1960's moved to Hancock. Hazel was primarily a homemaker, but worked as a cook at the Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson and she was the first cook at West Central Home's in Morris. James Thomas Cunningham passed away on June 11, 1981. Hazel has been a resident of the West Wind Village for the past seventeen years.



Hazel was active in Homemaker Clubs. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hancock and involved in it's Women's Fellowship Group. She and Tom loved to travel and never took the same road back home. Above all, Hazel adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them and talking about them.



Hazel died on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the West Wind Village in Morris having lived to reach the age of 98 years.



She is survived by her sons: Virgil (Lois) Cunningham of Paso Robles, CA and Thomas (Margaret) Cunningham of Hancock; six grandchildren: David (Jayne) Cunningham, Paul (Laurie) Cunningham, Jon (Jody) Cunningham, Gregg (Peggy) Cunningham, Ruth (Brian) Meyer, and Deborah (Jeff) Amos; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband: James Thomas Cunningham; an infant son: Frances; grandson: Brian; three brothers: Quentin, Gifford and Howard Stonecipher; and a sister: Winifred Wetternach.



Pallbearers fro the services are Hazel's grandchildren: David Cunningham, Paul Cunningham, Jon Cunningham, Gregg Cunningham, Ruth Meyer, and Deborah Amos. Honorary Pallbearers are Hazel's great-grandchildren: Carrie Pereira, Justin Cunningham, Neal Cunningham, Beth Cunningham, Brian Cunningham, Alice Cunningham, Stacie Cunningham, Lindsie Cunningham, Collin Cunningham, Weston Meyer, Jacob Meyer, Emily Cunningham, Sean Fisher, Chase Fisher, Garrett Amos, Anthony Amos and Tyler Amos; and Hazel's great-great-granddaughters: Leah Pereira and Jewel Cunningham. Jayne Cunningham will serve as organist / pianist for the service, with Beth Cunningham serving as soloist. Special music will be provided by members of Hazel's family. Pedersen Funeral Home of Morris is in charge of arrangements.
