Helen Margaret (Aune) Kyvig was born January 14, 1915 in Starbuck, Minnesota to Martin Aune originally from Trondheim, Norway and Alida (Strandness) Aune from Lowry, Minnesota. Helen was baptized and confirmed at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck, where she had been a life-long member. Helen attended elementary school at District #41 and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1932. After graduation, Helen enrolled in Normal Training and taught for several years in country schools in the Starbuck area.

On November 10, 1940, Helen was united in marriage to Raymond William Kyvig at Minnewaska Lutheran Church and moved to the Kyvig farm in Minnewaska Township. To this union, four children were born: Margery, Alice, William and Carol. Helen was a devoted farmer's wife and mother. She actively participated in the farming operation, was an excellent cook and baker and was always supportive of her children's education. During her children's college years, Helen became a Certified Nursing Assistant and was employed by the Glenwood Hospital. In 1977, Helen and Ray retired from the farm and moved to their home on Wollan Street in Starbuck. This home holds many special memories for their eight grandchildren. Helen and Ray enjoyed attending their grandchildren's various school musical and athletic events. In retirement, Helen and Ray took several trips in the U.S.A., one to Canada and a special trip to Bangkok, Thailand in 1985 to see their youngest daughter, Carol and family as well as to meet their youngest grandchild, Pat. Raymond passed away on July 10, 1989 and Helen continued to live on Wollan Street until 2003, when she became a resident of Holly Ridge. In October 2004, Helen moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home. Helen has been a devoted member of Minnewaska Lutheran Church serving as Sunday School teacher, choir member, officer in the Ladies Aid and historian for various church celebrations.
