Ira Banister

Ira Donald Banister, son of Roy and Josie (Jenson) Banister, was born August 13, 1926 in Scott Township. He was baptized on December 3, 1926 and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church. He received his schooling at Rural District Schools #4 and #5. In his younger years, he had a love of horses. On September 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Julette Henrichs. From this union two daughters were born. Bud worked for Morris Oil and for Culligan for fourteen years. He then went to work for the Stevens County Highway Department for twenty-five years until he retired. After his retirement, he worked for Eystad Trucking, New Horizons Elevator in Donnelly and for the Donnelly Coop Fertilizer Plant.

Bud was a member of Kongsvinger Lutheran Church, rural Donnelly, where he served as a church council member and as an usher. Bud enjoyed playing cards, reading, yard work, watching television and making birdhouses for all his family members. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving and caring husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Bud died on Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 81 years.

He is survived by his wife Julette Banister of Donnelly; two daughters: Diane (Glenn) Amundson of Donnelly and Debra (Robert) Touhey of Chaska; four grandchildren: Shelly (Brad) Wilkening who was like a daughter to Bud, Darren Schultz, Dawn (Mark) Eggers and Shane (Jackie) Touhey; eight great-grandchildren Josie and Jena Wilkening, Zachary and Nicholas Schwendeman. Brittney, Breanna, Amanda, and Andrew Eggers and one great grandchild to be born in March of 2008; three step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren; four sisters: Hazel Olson of Chokio, Grace (Earl) Steuck of Chokio, Vivian Bjorlin of Chokio, and Jeanette (Verdi) Schmitz of Chokio; four sisters-in-law: Pearl I. Anderson of Donnelly, Arlene Henrichs of Hoffman, Beverly Henrichs of St. Louis Park, and Shirley Henrichs of Donnelly; two brothers-in-law Lloyd Plocker of Morris and William Nilson of Johnson; many nieces and nephews and his precious poodle Penny. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Vernon; one sister: Verna Nilson and two brothers-in-law.

Serving as pallbearers are: Glenn Amundson, Robert Touhey, Shelly Wilkening, Darren Schultz, Dawn Eggers, Shane Touhey, Joe Ehlen and John Bengston. Honorary pallbearers are: Bud's great-grandchildren. Sue Erdahl-Nelson will serve as organist for the service with the Kongsvinger Trio providing special music. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
