Jean Wieland

September 1, 1917 — November 1, 2005

Beverly, Barbara, Bill and Linda along with their families, this day, November 5, 2005 celebrate the life and memories of their mother:

Jean Elizabeth Byer was born in Egeland, North Dakota to Charles J. and Eliza Gladys (Forney) Byer. She grew up, was baptized and confirmed in the First Presbyterian Church in Egeland. She graduated from Egeland High School and received her degree from Minot State College. Mom taught school in Egeland, where she met and married Woodrow W. Wieland on August 1, 1939. Following their marriage, they lived in several towns in North Dakota, moving to Morris, Minnesota in October, 1945, making this their life time home. "Woodie" passed away December 24, 1968.

After the four of us were in school, mom's second career began by working in the Morris community. First working at Knowles Clothing, and then managing the Jane Morris Women's Specialty Shop for seven years. In August 1960, she joined the Morris State Bank team. Mom retired January 1, 1988 at the age of 70, having served 27 years at the teller window.

In the years following our father's death, mom returned to college. She received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from UMM January 1981.

In mom's retirement years, she enjoyed being more active in her church and community. She volunteered many hours at the Sr. Citizen Center, Food Shelf, Blood Mobile and the election polls. Mom was also busy enjoying her family, traveling, reading, knitting, attending concerts, plays, etc. Above all, she remained a loyal Minnesota Twins fan, giving one the statistics and then some.

Mom died on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Eliza; husband: Woodie; brother: Duane Byer; beloved step-mother: Esther Miller Byer and her mother-in-law: Lydia Wieland.
