Jerry Branby

March 20, 1934 — December 17, 2006

Jerry Melvin Branby, son of Melvin and Ann (Barsness) Branby, was born March 20, 1934 in Starbuck, MN. He spent his grade school years in the Starbuck area, before moving to northeast Minneapolis with his family. He attended Edison High School and graduated in 1952. Following his schooling, he pursued his education at the University of Minnesota for 4 years. After college, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with the Ski Patrol in Germany and Austria and was also a bugler. After receiving an honorable discharge, he went into sales. In April of 1962, he was united in marriage to Alyne Stewart. From this union three children were born. Jerry then changed careers and began his own carpentry business. He retired in the Starbuck area devoting a great deal of volunteer time to the Starbuck VFW and fundraising for the Starbuck Eagle Scouts.



Jerry was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He was also a member of the Starbuck VFW. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America having served as Scout Master and volunteering with the Eagle Scout Program. Jerry liked skiing, playing the trumpet and was an avid reader. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Vikings. He really enjoyed speaking with his various relatives in Norwegian. Jerry especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.



Jerry died on Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 72 years.



He is survived by two sons: Jason (Vineeta) Branby of St. Paul and Justin Branby of Alexandria; one daughter: Jessica Branby of St. Paul; grandchildren: Jack Branby, Leela Branby, Ilissa Branby, Gabriel Coleman and Brittany Coleman. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.



Pallbearers for the service are: Gabriel Coleman, Ken Dalager, Lyle Maanum, Douglas Opdahl, Matt Pederson and Christopher Penn. Monica Gosseling will serve as organist for the service with Joy Smith serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the Starbuck Boy Scout and Eagle Scout Programs.
