Joyce Goodyear

Joyce Virginia Van Dyke was born December 13, 1925, in Sheldon, Iowa to O.A. and Alice (Gaster) Van Dyke. She was baptized on June 29, 1930, and confirmed on March 3, 1949, by Reverend Gerhard Forde. She grew up and received her schooling in Sheldon Iowa. After graduating from high school, Joyce worked as a bookkeeper at a filling station. On February 18, 1947, she was united in marriage to LaVern Goodyear. The couple moved to a farm in rural Starbuck where Joyce lived and worked until the time of her death.



Joyce was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck where she served as the president and secretary of the ladies aide. She recently recorded church services at Indherred and delivered the tapes to shut-ins. She was also a 4-H leader and a member of the Homemakers Club. Joyce enjoyed gardening, canning, volunteering at church, baking cookies and muffins and sharing them and visiting with friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.



Joyce died on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at her home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 81 years.



She is survived by her husband: LaVern of Starbuck; two daughters: Sue (Mark) Schumann of Starbuck and Cindi (Don) Peterson of Hopkins; four grandchildren: Creg Schumann, Jason (Kim) Schumann, Matt Peterson and fiancAC. Jesse Hughes, and Alissa Peterson; one great grandchild: Reed Schumann and one sister: Marilynn (Chuck) Torrens of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents and one son: LJay.
