Lauretta Kill

November 7, 1923 — May 10, 2008

Lauretta Charlotte Eklund, the fourth of nine daughters born to Harry and Inga (Dale) Eklund, was born November 7, 1923 at Chokio, MN, and lived her entire life in the Chokio/Morris area. She united in marriage to George Steve Kill on November 23, 1943 at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris by Father Ralph Ashcoff. Following their marriage, they lived with George's parents until 1946 when they moved to their first farm south of Chokio. They purchased their second and last farm south of Morris in 1951, where they raised their family and farmed grain and livestock. In 1985, they moved to their retirement home a few miles out of Morris, where they have lived since that time.



Lauretta was a long-time member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where she had been active in the church mission group, the Christian Mothers and the guild. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and spending time with family and friends.



The Hands of our God began cradling Lauretta Charlotte (Eklund) Kill the early morning hours of May 10, 2008, due to the recent diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She had lived to reach the age of 84 years.



She is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Kill of Morris; eight children: Tony (Karen) of Newton, MA, Jo Moderie of Apple Valley, MN, Ted (Barb) of Hancock, Nick (Sandy) of Morris, Mary (David) Fennell of Fergus Falls, Tim (Sher) of Waunakee, WI, Jean (Wayne) Lesmeister of Morris and Steve (Lori) of Morris; two sons-in-law: Bill Moderie of Missoula MT and Don Moderie of Eagan MN; 21 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces, nephews and godchildren.



Lauretta is also survived by four sisters: Elma Lesmeister, Lillian Lesmeister, Marilyn Wilson, Jeannine Hemmerick and eight brothers/sisters-in-law: Earl Hemmerick, Geesian Kill, Betty Pollard, Herb & Irene Kill, Don Jost, Kathryn Claussen and Joyce Kill.



Lauretta is preceded in death by a daughter, Lorelei Moderie; four sisters: Irene Eklund, Bernadine Farl, Audrey Hauglund and Nettie Boettcher and ten brothers/sisters-in-law: Leonard Kill, Les Pollard, Irene Jost, Berdella Jost, Don Farl, Bob Wilson, John Lesmeister, Urban Lesmeister, Martin Boettcher and Bill Kill.



Pallbearers for the service are Lauretta's Grandsons: James Kill, Isaac Kill, Nathaniel Fritz-Kill, Zachary Fritz-Kill, Taylor Fennell, Jared Moderie, Lloyd Lesmeister, Jacob Moderie and Kurtis Kill. Deb Mahoney will serve as pianist for the service, with Holly Giese serving as soloist/song leader. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
