Lester Pollard

Lester John Pollard passed away peacefully at the VA hospital in Fargo on Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the age of 84. He braved various health issues but continued to enjoy life and remain active.

Les was born to Joseph and Rose Pollard on April 3, 1923 at their farm in Benton County near Foley, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Betty) Kill on March 16, 1943 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Les joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940. He also drove a grain truck for R.W. Greiner. From 1944 to 1946, he proudly served in the Army's 10th Mountain Division,and was stationed in Italy. After his discharge, Les attended the Dunwoody Institute. In 1948, Les moved his family to a farm near Chokio and while farming he attended the ag school in Morris. Les and Betty purchased their present farm near Cyrus in the spring of 1955,which consists of livestock and grain.

Lester was a member of Our Lady of the Runestone Catholic Church. He was a life member of the V.F.W. and the D.A.V. and a member of the American Legion,and was also a member of the 9F Sportsman's Club and served on the Pope County Soil and Water Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and giving golf cart rides to his family and friends. Les also enjoyed history, politics and sharing his war stories. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife: Betty Pollard of Cyrus; two sons: Bruce Pollard of Cyrus and Kevin (Linda) Pollard of Kensington; three daughters: Connie (Spencer) Howey of Chokio, Chleo Anderson of Alexandria and RaeJean (Ted) Marsh of Roberts, WI; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Phil (Ruth) Pollard of Redmond, WA, Ted (Phyllis) Pollard of Foley and Bill (Margaret) Pollard of Mound; one sister: Dorothy Swalboski of St. Peter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six infant grandchildren; his parents and one brother: Leonard.
