Louis Brackenbury

December 17, 1921 — October 4, 2007

Louis Ernest Brackenbury, son of Fergus and Elizabeth (Smith) Brackenbury was born on December 17, 1921 in Pine City, Minnesota. As a boy he moved with his family to the Brook Park area, where he grew up and attended school. Louis moved to Benson and operated a mechanic shop and later did the same in Appleton. He would also help his brother Bob on the farm and other area farmers. Louis was united in marriage to Gertrude Nelson - Wagner on February 29, 1964. The couple made their home in Morris, where Louis was employed as a mechanic at the University of Minnesota - Morris. After their retirement the couple enjoyed spending their winters in Phoenix, AZ. Gertrude passed away on March 30, 2002 in Phoenix, AZ.



Louis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris. He also belonged to the 9F Sportsman Club and was very active in the VFW. Louis enjoyed hunting and was always puttering about and fixing things.



Louis died on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota having lived to reach the age of 85.



He is survived by two daughters: Patricia (James) Sester of Ortonville and Anita Antrim of Wheaton; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother: Bill (Betty) Brackenbury of Brook Park; sister: Faith Jenson; sister-in-law: Alvina Brackenbury of Kerkoven, and several nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his parents: Elizabeth and Fergus; wife: Gertrude; granddaughter: Linda Krueger; brother: Forrest "Bob" Brackenbury; two son-in-laws: Lawrence Kepner and Thomas Antrim



Serving as pallbearers for the service are: Terry Hagen, Judy Fennell, Todd Sester, Scott Sester, Julie Bennis, Michele Larson and Dan Antrim. Honorary pallbearers will be Louis's Nieces and Nephews. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist for the service with Judy Fennell serving as soloist.
