Louise Eystad

April 27, 1928 — September 12, 2008

Louise Mae (Leuthard) Eystad, daughter of Thomas and Anna (Waldvogel) Leuthard, was born at her family farm in rural Chokio on April 27, 1928. She was the sixth of eleven children. She grew up in rural Chokio and attended District 55 Marty Grove country school. On October 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Donald “Tubby” Eystad. The couple lived in Morris where they raised their six children: Deb, Joe, Dan, Steve, Dale and Jay. Louise’s jobs outside the home included the Chokio Creamery, Richard’s Produce and Morris Public Schools. Her favorite job was being a homemaker. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a wonderful sister and a great mother-in-law. Louise was an active member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris and belonged to Christian Mothers and St. Elizabeth’s Mission Group. She was always happy when she could be busy helping others. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crafts. She was a fun-loving person and liked to dance, ice skate, roller skate, swim, ride bike, fish, play cards and spend time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with various family members and friends.


On September, 12, 2008, after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer, ­Louise died peacefully at her home, surrounded by those who loved her. She was 80 years old.




She is survived by her children: Deb (Mick) Rose of Morris, Joe (Nikki) Eystad of Morris, Dan Eystad of Morris (special friend: Judy Reuss), Steve (Lisa) Eystad of Hutchinson, Dale (Connie) Eystad of St. Michael, and Jay (Nancy) Eystad of Park Rapids; grandchildren: Eric (Jenny) Rose, Sara (Jason) Buntin; Kyle (Krissie) Rose, Joel Eystad, Jake Eystad, Hayley Eystad, Autumn Eystad, Rhianna Eystad, Trevor Eystad, Corey Eystad (fiance: Jenny Johanneck), Whitney Eystad, Mariah Eystad, Cierra Eystad, Kiana Eystad, Zach Eystad, Emily Eystad, Sam Eystad and Abby Eystad; great-grandchildren: Dalton Rose, Davin Rose, Isabel Rose, Dylan Rose and Caden Rose; sisters: Helen Mickelson of Cyrus, Lillian Ritter of Chokio, Gen Mullin of Morris and Fran (Phil) Zimmerman of Minneapolis; brother: Carl (Jo) Leuthard of Zimmerman; sisters-in-law: Shirley Leuthard of Ashby, Arlene Freeman of Texas, Janell (Howard) Jensen of Wapheton, ND, and Donna Eystad-Bahr of Morris; brother-in-law: Vern (Sherrie) Eystad, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tubby; parents, Thomas and Anna Leuthard; brothers: Peter Leuthard and Henry Leuthard, sisters: Emma Meyer, Lorraine Eckhoff, and Margaret Johnson; brothers-in-law: Dick Mullin, Clifford Mikelson, Robert Ritter, Floyd Johnson, Melvin Eystad and Charles Freeman; sister-in-law: Agnes Leuthard, and daughter-in-law: Lynette Eystad.




Pallbearers for the service are: Eric Rose, Kyle Rose, Corey Eystad, Joel Eystad, Trevor Eystad, Zach Eystad, Sam Eystad, Jake Eystad and John Mullin. Honorary pallbearers are: Sara Buntin, Hayley Eystad, Autumn Eystad, Rhianna Eystad, Whitney Eystad, Mariah Eystad, Cierra Eystad, Kiana Eystad, Emily Eystad and Abby Eystad. Music leaders for the service are Ken & Linda Hodgson. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
