Lucile Cin

April 1, 1924 — January 23, 2008

Lucile "Lukie" Ivy (Cook) Cin was born on April 1, 1924 in Synnes Township, Stevens County, Minnesota. She went to join her soul mate Orlyn in everlasting rest on January 23, 2008.

Lucile was the seventh of nine children born to Earl and Lillian (Isherwood) Cook. Her father moved the family from Synnes to Scott Township when she was a year old to ensure his children better educational opportunities. This began a lifetime love of reading and doing cross word puzzles. She attended Alberta High School and was the valedictorian of her class, graduating in 1942. After graduation she attended Willmar Business School.

She met her husband Orlyn in 1940 at a rural dance and he was instantly smitten. She proved hard to catch and once when he was ill with the mumps she accepted a date with another young man. Orlyn said that he made sure he was never sick again.

While attending school in Willmar, Orlyn would drive her home each weekend to spend time with her family but due to rationing during WWII, they often had to change and repair two flat tires in each direction and became so good at it that they could fix a tire in less than five minutes. Thus began their lifetime partnership.

She began working at the Herman Insurance Company in 1943 and refused to marry Orlyn until she could save enough money for new household furniture, sterling silver and "good" dishes. They married in 1945 and shared 59 years of wedded bliss. She once stated that she asked the Lord for patience and he gave her six children. Her immediate family will miss her laughter and wisdom and the joy she brought to each of them. She shared a unique and special relationship with each one. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Sundays were reserved for worship and then afternoon visiting, sharing coffee or tea and something sweet. Although she enjoyed chatting on the telephone, she always remembered birthdays, anniversaries and other holidays with beautiful cards and gifts chosen especially for the recipient.

Lucile was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in church activities. She spent time in daily prayer and was truly a living example of a devout Christian woman.

In addition to her time and devotion to her family, she worked for the United States Post Office for 42 years. She was appointed Postmaster for Alberta in 1986 and lived the traditional postal motto of always being there for her customers. She loved going to work and visiting with the many people who came into the Post Office. She truly missed her work when she retired at the age of 77, but continued to meet with her many postal friends monthly until her death.

Lucile was an accomplished seamstress, baker and gardener. She was well known for her quilting, handiwork, pies, applesauce, jams, caramel rolls and canned meat. She had the ability to get a lot done in a short period of time and although she was left-handed, she could hammer or use a scissor equally well with both hands. Her family members looked forward to holidays knowing she would create something special, unique to them, from her hands and from her heart.

Lucile is survived by her six children: Susan (John) Roise of North Mankato; Shelley Scharping of Edina; Sheila Cin of Boulder, CO; Lowell (Jen) Cin of St. Paul; Sally Cin of Indianapolis, IN and Layne Cin of Alberta; nine grandchildren: Geoff (Rebecca) Roise and their children Joshua, Hannah and Elizabeth; Nate (Robyn) Roise; Jon Roise; Megan (Nate) McKenzie and their son, Ethan; Michael Scharping and his children Hannah and Vanessa; Matt Scharping; Kylie Frantz; Keegan Frantz and Andrew Cin; two sisters: Eva Cook-Jones and Dorothy (Carroll) Amundson; one sister-in-law: Laurine (Mrs. Bob) Cook and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Orlyn, parents Earl and Lillian (Isherwood) Cook, three brothers: Paul, Bob and Ray; and three sisters: Ruth, Helen and Hazel.
