Mae Zimmerman

May 15, 1921 — October 29, 2005

Mae Helen Zimmerman was born on May 15, 1921 at Hutchinson, Minnesota to Reinhold and Christina (Tegtmeier) Lueneburg. As a young child the family moved to a farm near Herman. Mae attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1937. She attended Herman Public School and graduated in 1939. She was united in marriage to Harold Zimmerman of Chokio on September 18, 1949. They worked side by side on the farm, sang together with the Our Savior's choir for many years and square danced with the Morris B-Squares for several years. Mae and Harold retired from farming in 1982 and moved to Chokio, where they enjoyed a smaller garden, went on numerous trips together and socialized with friends and family. Mae continued to live at her home until a few months before her death. She moved to West Wind Village in late August.

Mae was involved with the Jolly Ten and Baker Homemaker's Clubs. She was also active with the Our Savior's Lutheran Women's Group and the Chokio American Legion Auxiliary.

Mae was a loving and understanding wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law and aunt, always interested in the activities and well being of everyone. She was gentle and soft spoken, but had a keen sense of humor. She was a skillful homemaker and gardener. She loved nature and animals, particularly, cats. As Mae's health declined, she still maintained her affection for her family and friends, her cat and the love of music. She will be sadly missed.

Mae died on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at West Wind Village in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.

She is survived by her husband: Harold Zimmerman of Chokio; children: Allan (Marie) Smith of Grand Forks, ND, Faye (Eddie) Pinson of Becker and Connie Boe of Morris; one sister: Florence (Jim) Busiek of Sun City, AZ; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two children: Dixie Hagestuen and Leon Smith.
