Melvin Becker

Melvin J. C. Becker, son of Louis and (Ella) Spieker, was born July 3, 1919 in Synnes Township in Stevens County, Minnesota, where he grew up. He was baptized on July 20, 1919 by Reverend F. W. Pasche and confirmed on July 22, 1934 by Reverend C. W. Ristow at German Lutheran Church in Synnes Township. He attended school through the 8th grade. On July 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Allowese Schulz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway by Reverend Walthers. Following their marriage, the couple farmed until 1960, when they moved to Morris. Melvin was employed at Purina Feed for several years, before going to work at Morris Coop Association for 20 years. Following his retirement, he did various maintenance jobs at several places in Morris for ten years. Melvin and Allowese have remained in Morris since that time.

Melvin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hancock. He enjoyed walking, playing cards, visiting with family and friends and spending time at home with Allowese.

Melvin died on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 88 years.

He is survived by: his wife: Allowese Becker of Morris; one son: Loren (June) Becker of Hancock; one daughter: Holly (Brad) Svea of Starbuck; two grandchildren: Jesse Alama of Stanton, CA and Jill Campen of Minneapolis; one sister: Mildred Hoppe of Minneapolis; brother-in-law: Marvin Schulz of Morris and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary pallbearers are Melvin's grandchildren: Jesse Alama and Jill Campen. Phyllis Joos will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
