Merritt Pieske

November 9, 1920 — June 12, 2007

Merritt Earl Pieske, son of Edward and Elizabeth (Halter) Pieske, was born November 9, 1920 in Sanborn, Minnesota in Redwood County, where he grew up and received his schooling. He was confirmed on December 1, 1940 at Evangelican Lutheran Church in Wanda, Minnesota by Rev. William. Langholz. On October 17, 1940, he was united in marriage to Elvira Ida Mude. The couple lived in Sanborn until 1949, when they moved to the Cyrus, Minnesota area, where they farmed and raised their sons. In 1975, Merritt and Elvira retired and moved into Cyrus. Merritt continued to help his son's farm for the next 20 years





Merritt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. For many years, he belonged to a bowling league, when he lost his thumb he had to give it up. He loved old time music, dancing, hunting and fishing. He took great pride in his sons and grandchildren's sports activities. In his later years, he spent lots of time gardening and visiting with friends. He liked playing cards and really enjoyed going to the casinos.





Merritt died on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN, having lived to reach the age of 86 years.





He is survived by his wife: Elvira Pieske of Cyrus; two sons: Roger (Janice) Pieske of Cyrus and Dennis (Vicki) Pieske of Starbuck; four grandchildren: Paula (Anthony) Amborn of Grand Forks, ND, Greg Pieske (and friend: Caryn Riebe) of Big Lake, Staci (Matt) Butler of Hutchinson and Nathan Pieske of St. Paul; five great-grandchildren: McKenna and Braeden Amborn of Grand Forks, ND and Landon, Logan and Kaden Butler of Hutchinson and one brother: Glen (Lorraine) Pieske of Lamberton, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Lawrence, Leonard and Clarence Pieske and seven brothers-in-law.





Pallbearers for the service are: Greg Pieske, Nathan Pieske, Matt Butler, Anthony Amborn, Pete Bright and Donald VanZee. Honorary pallbearers are all who called Merritt "Friend". Diane Hanse will serve as organist for the service with Jere Solvie and Sheryle Dahl serving as soloist. Karl Retzlaff will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
