Mildred Bernice Dahlseng was born August 20, 1926 to John and Mina (Larson) Braaten in Nora Township, rural Kensington, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church. Mildred graduated from high school in Kensington and continued on with Normal Training in Glenwood, MN to become a school teacher. She taught grades 1-12 in a country school near Cyrus, MN.

One Sunday evening she and a girlfriend sang in a Luther League program at St. John's Church, and 2 weeks later she received at letter requesting a date from Arnold Dahlseng. A romance blossomed and Mildred married Arnold on June 23, 1948. They were blessed with 4 children and farmed near Starbuck until their retirement in 1982 when they moved into town.

Mildred enjoyed being a farm wife and a "Normal" girl with her 4 good girlfriends from school. She liked bird watching and taking care of her geraniums, glads, lilies, irises, ferns, African violets and more. She liked to bake, quilt, cross-stitch, camp, square dance (much to Arnold's dismay!) and travel. Mildred also worked as a nurse's aide at the Minnewaska Home. She taught piano lessons for many years and was the organist at St. John's for over 30 years. Mildred was active in church and many organizations within the community.

Mildred Dahlseng passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 16, 2014 at Grand Arbor, Alexandria, MN.

She was a gentle woman with a strong faith in God. She was a great encourager to everyone, especially her children. Mildred will be missed by her children: John (Judi) of Lowry, MN; Kathy (Brian) Gray of Park Rapids, MN; Curt (Rose Ann) of Starbuck, MN; Keith (Paulette) of Dassel, MN.
