Nota Emmert

Nota Gay Shanholtzer, daughter of O. A. and Nellie (Whittaker) Shanholtzer, was born July 30, 1913 in Stuart, Iowa. Nota was baptized on August 18, 1996 at the Hancock Evangelical Free Church. At a young age, her family moved to Palisade, Minnesota, where she grew up and received her schooling. On December 14, 1929, she was united in marriage to Clifford Emmert in Aitkin, Minnesota. The couple moved to Grant County, South Dakota, where they lived until 1936, when they moved back to Palisade. In 1948, they moved to Hancock, where they continued to farm and raise their children. Clifford died on June 15, 1993. Nota continued to live on the farm until November 6, 1999, when she moved to Grandview Apartments in Morris, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Nota enjoyed gardening, baking and playing cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Nota died on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 94 years.

She is survived by: four sons: Clifford (Alice) Emmert of Alexandria, Larry (Shirley) Emmert of Blaine, Jerry (Donna) Emmert of Hoffman and Ivan (Teresa) Emmert of Hancock; one daughter: Nell Anderson of Alberta; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Dewey (Faye) Shanholtzer of Bakersfield, CA; sister-in-law: Janet (Nyal) Shanholtzer of Litchfield and daughter-in-law: Carol (Jerry) VerSteeg of Hancock. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son: Dale; her parents; three sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers for the service are Nota's grandsons: Cliff C. Emmert, Randy A. Anderson, Mike Emmert, Jay Emmert, Andy Emmert and Brian Emmert. Rita Lambert will serve as pianist for the service with Jenny Mecklenburg serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
