Orville Dahlseng

Orville Walter Dahlseng, son of John and Dena (Vengstad) Dahlseng, was born May 23, 1921 in Starbuck , Minnesota , where he grew up in White Bear Lake Township . Orville was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He attended and graduated from Starbuck High School . In March of 1945, Orville enlisted in the United States Navy, serving until July of 1946, when he received an honorable discharge. On June 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruthe Edith Rosten at Indherred Lutheran Church , rural Starbuck. The couple made their home in New Prairie Township , where they raised their children and farmed for 61 years.

Orville enjoyed playing pinochle, watching the Minnesota Twins play baseball and attending church suppers. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Orville died on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck , MN , having lived to reach the age of 87 years.

He is survived by his wife: Ruthe Dahlseng of Starbuck; children: David (Ruth) Rosten of Isanti, Linda (Hank) Grahsl of Brooklyn Park, Steven (Peggy) Dahlseng of Cyrus and Brent (Jody) Dahlseng; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters: Hazel Larson, Carl Dahlseng, Hilma Jellum, Orlando Dahlseng, Julius Dahlseng, Arnold Dahlseng, Clifford Dahlseng, Dagny Dahlseng, Clarmont Dahlseng, Wallace Dahlseng and Maynard Dahlseng.

Pallbearers for the service are: Kerry Wilson, Darren Grahsl, Heidi Grahsl, Aaron Dahlseng, David Dahlseng, Mark Dahlseng and Nathan Dahlseng. Honorary pallbearers are: Lavern Goodyear, Jim Erickson, Don Anderson, Jackie Johnsrud and Don Bailey. Amy VanZee will serve as organist for the service. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
