Richard Hanrahan

Richard Patrick Hanrahan, son of William and Helen (Daly) Hanrahan, was born November 15, 1935 on the family farm in Horton Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He was baptized, confirmed and received his first communion at Assumption Catholic Church in Morris. Dick grew up and attended country school in Horton Township . He graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. Following his schooling, Richard remained on the farm, where he continued to farm with his parents. On August 17, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joan Lesmeister at Assumption Catholic Church. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the Hanrahan family farm, where they farmed and raised their five children. The couple celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in 2007. Dick retired from farming in 2000.





Dick was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Morris, where he served on the parish board and was an usher. He also served on the Morris Coop Board and was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. For many years, Dick was active in the Dairy Association, the Saddle Club and the Horton 4-H Club. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.





Dick died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at his home in Horton Township . He lived to reach the age of 74 years.





He is survived by his wife: Joan Hanrahan of Morris; four children: Scott Hanrahan of Morris, Lori Carey of Bloomington, David Hanrahan of New York, NY and Mary Hanrahan (Tim Thoreen) of St. Paul; two grandsons: Connor Carey and Owen Carey; one granddaughter: Ida Thoreen; adopted sister: Helen Anderson of Tustin, CA and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one son: Thomas Hanrahan; his parents; infant brother: Leo as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.





Father Tim Baltes will be officiating. Ken and Linda Hodgson will provide special music for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.





Memorials are preferred to the Assumption Catholic Church and St. Mary’s School in Morris
