Richard Schmidgall

March 27, 1924 — January 8, 2009

Richard Robert Schmidgall, son of Henry and Emma (Koehl) Schmidgall, was born March 27, 1924 in Hancock, Minnesota. He grew up and received his education in Hancock, graduating from Hancock High School in 1942. Richard spent his first summer working for Hancock Concrete in Salina, KS. He then entered the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after World War II. When he returned home, Richard became actively involved in Hancock Concrete, the family business started by his father. In 1956, Richard was baptized into the Apostolic Christian Church in Morris, MN. On April 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Corrine Mae Moser at the Apostolic Christian Church. The couple made their home in Hancock, where Richard continued working at Hancock Concrete until 2004, when he retired at the age of 80, having served as President and CEO for many years.




Richard was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Morris, where he served in several capacities. He was an advocate and entrepreneur for the community of Hancock and the concrete industry.




Richard had a special desire to share God’s love with those around him, especially his family. His adoration for his wife, Corrine, was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.




Richard died on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 84 years.




He is survived by his wife: Corrine Schmidgall of Morris; six children: Nancy (Jim) Kaufmann of Towanda, IL, Robert (Kathryn) Schmidgall of Hancock, Brenda (Mark) Knobloch of Morris, Bruce (Penny) Schmidgall of Hancock, Lois (Chuck) Massner of Mediapolis, IA and Peggy (Tony) Ascheman of Hancock; son-in-law: Roger Evink of Hancock; 28 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; five brothers: Wayne (Dorothy) Schmidgall of Morris, Hartzell (Marian) Schmidgall of Mediapolis, IA, Don (Virginia) Schmidgall of Hancock, Gilbert (Barbara) Schmidgall of Morris and Gene (Dorothy) Schmidgall of Hancock; three sisters: Gladys Messner of Morris, Estella Moser of Morris and Darlene Carlton of Bonney Lake, WA; one sister-in-law: Alice Wulf of Lester, IA; one brother-in-law: Carl (Norene) Moser of Morris and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Mary Evink and one brother: Francis Schmidgall.




Pallbearers for the service are: Cory Evink, Jason Evink, Randy Evink, Brant Kaufmann, Mitchell Kaufmann and Austin Schmidgall. Special music for the service will be provided by the Apostolic Christian Church Choir. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
