Robert Stammer

Robert Edwin Stammer, son of John and Bessie (Sedlacek) Stammer, was born January 13, 1922 in Wisner, Nebraska, where he began his schooling, graduating from Wisner High School in 1939. Following high school, Robert continued his education at the Commercial Extension School in Omaha, Nebraska. On October 30, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving until February 24, 1946, when he received an honorable discharge. On December 30, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Burke at Bancroft Presbyterian Church by Reverend Harold Snow. Following their marriage, the couple lived on a farm near Lyons, Nebraska until 1957, when they moved to a farm between Cyrus and Starbuck. In 1959, they moved to a farm north of Starbuck, where they continued to live and farm until 1969, when Robert retired from farming and he and Dorothy moved into Starbuck in 1970. Robert went to work for a few years at Glenwood Manufacturing until he retired.




Robert was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and target shooting with his grandkids. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.




Robert died on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, having lived to reach the age of 87 years.




He is survived by two sons: John (Kathy) Stammer of Starbuck and David Stammer of Starbuck; one daughter: Roberta (Doug) Kuhnau of Farwell; six grandchildren: Steven (Megan) Kuhnau of East Bethel, Jon (Kristina) Kuhnau of Alexandria, Neil (Kati) Kuhnau of Watertown, Bradley Kuhnau of Farwell, Renee (Hans) Helgenset of Benson and Katie (Andrew) Christensen of St. Paul; seven great-grandchildren: Elaina, Adrianna, Jonah, Andy, Audrey, Evelyn and Jack; one brother: Richard Stammer of Tigrad, OR; two sisters-in-law: Bernice Stammer of Lawrenceburg, IN and Barbara Stammer of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; granddaughter: Melissa Stammer and two brothers: Jack and Norman Stammer.




Pallbearers for the service are Hans Helgenset, Andrew Christensen, Steven Kuhnau, Jon Kuhnau, Bradley Kuhnau and Neil Kuhnau. Amy VanZee will serve as organist for the service with Sylvia Gunderson providing special music. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
