Roy Jesness

Roy Alvin Jesness, son of Alfred and Clara (Carlson) Jesness, was born May 14, 1914 in Swan Lake Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. Roy was baptized and confirmed at Scandia Lutheran Church, rural Cyrus, MN. He attended the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. While attending school and following his schooling, Roy worked on the family farm with his parents. On October 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Ruth Ross. Following their marriage, the couple operated a dairy and grain farm in Swan Lake Township and raised their three children: Donald, Gerald and Linda. In 1995, Roy and Ruth retired and moved into Morris. Ruth died on May 31, 2008. Roy has continued to live in Morris since that time.




Roy was a member of Scandia Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway. For many years he enjoyed traveling with Ruth. His love, warmth and sense of humor will be remember and deeply missed.




Roy died on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, MN, surrounded by loving family. He lived to reach the age of 95 years.




He is survived by two sons: Don (Carol) Jesness of Eagan and Jerry (Liz) Jesness of League City, TX; one daughter: Linda Jesness of Burnsville; nine grandchildren: Scott (Esther) Jesness of St. Paul, Todd (Jennie) Jesness of Hollywood, FL, Brian Jesness of St. Paul, Katie (Jason) Dick of Mankato, Suzanna Jesness of League City, TX, Sarah Jesness of League City, TX, Laura Jesness of League City, TX, Brandon Crosbie of Burnsville and Rebecca Crosbie of Rochester; two great-grandchildren: Leah Dick and Heidi Dick; one brother: Elmer (Eileen) Jesness of Wendell; one sister: Ruth Tweed of Grand Forks, ND and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters: Lillian Stark and Dorothy Durkee and one brother: Phillip Jesness.




Pallbearers for the services are Roy’s grandchildren: Scott Jesness, Todd Jesness, Katie Dick, Brian Jesness, Suzanna Jesness, Sarah Jesness, Laura Jesness, Brandon Crosbie, Rebecca Crosbie and honorary grandchild: Jeremiah Kill. Nola Smith will serve as organist for the service with Sheryle Dahl serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.









In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Scandia West Cemetery Restoration Fund.
