Ruby Olson

Memorial services for Ruby Olson of Hancock, Minnesota will be held Monday, July 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. Reverend Julius Miller will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.

Ruby Opal Swenson, daughter of Swen and Alvina (Roisum) Swenson, was born August 17, 1926 near Pennock, Minnesota. Ruby was baptized and confirmed by Reverend Otto Juel at our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. She attended and graduated from Hancock High School. On December 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Selmer Olson in Hancock by Reverend Otto Juel. Ruby and Sam made their home in Hancock, where Ruby was a homemaker and cared for their three children, Donna, Mike and Judy. When Judy was born with Downs Syndrome, Ruby became a very active member of the Morris Chapter for the Association for Retarded Children. Ruby was also an active member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Hancock. She enjoyed attending school activities, bird watching and going to the lake and being with her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruby died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at West Wind Village in Morris, MN. She lived to reach the age of 85 years.

She is survived by son: Mike (Renae) Olson of Hancock; daughter: Donna (Steve) Leanheart of Ellicott City, MD; four grandchildren: Kelly Smith, Kay (Damon) Curfman, Sara Olson and Kelsey Olson; 2 great-grandsons: Donovan and Gunnar Curfman; three sisters: Marvis McRoberts of El Cajon, CA, Donna (Sid) Rustad of Clontarf and Jean Hollen of Chokio; sisters-in-law: Levone Swenson of Barron, WI and Shirley Swenson of Little Falls. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter: Judy Olson; great-granddaughter: Alexandra Curfman; three brothers: Jerroll, Roger and Lyle Swenson; one sister: Dorothy Mazurek; three brothers-in-law: Bill Mazurek, Mark McRoberts and Arnie Hollen and one sister-in-law: Olga Swenson.

Honorary urnbearers for the service are Ruby's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sandy Pahl will serve as organist for the service. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
