Shirley Hagen

June 3, 1931 — December 2, 2007

Shirley Ann Hawkinson, daughter of Fred and Anna (Bruer) Hawkinson, was born June 3, 1931 in Morris, Minnesota. She grew up in Cyrus, where she was baptized in August, 1931 and confirmed March 25, 1945 at Scandia East Lutheran Church. She began her schooling at the Cyrus Grade School and later graduated from Cyrus High School. Following her schooling, Shirley remained in Cyrus until she was 20 years old, when she then moved to Tacoma, Washington to live with her aunt, Marge Carlson. While living in Tacoma, she worked at the National Bank of Washington. On November 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to H. Duane Hagen at Central Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Mount Vernon, WA, Everett, WA and Belleuve, WA, where Shirley worked at the local banks in each of these towns. In 1969, the couple, along with their three children, moved to Alexandria, where Shirley worked at the First Bank until 1986, when they moved back to Cyrus. She continued to work at the State Bank of Cyrus, until her retirement.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus, where she was active with WELCA, Deborah Circle and served on the church library committee. She loved to sew, bake, read, making crafts and gardening. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends.

Shirley died on Monday, December 2, 2007 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN, having lived to reach the age of 76 years.

She is survived by her husband: H. Duane Hagen of Cyrus; three children: Howard Hagen of Arizona City, AZ, Lora (Bryan) Bierbrauer of New Richmond, WI and Alan (Rhonda) Hagen of Watertown, SD; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild and former daughter-in-law: Jenny Gibbs of Arizona City, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Wayne Hawkinson.

Pallbearers for the service are: John Stellner, Keith Gades, Allan Rutter, Larry Kannegiesser, Jeff Schultz, Dennis Sayre and Jeff Christenson. Nola Smith will serve as organist for the service, with Sheryle Dahl serving as soloist. Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris is in charge of the arrangements.
