Shirley Moe

May 26, 1933 — December 2, 2006

Shirley Ruth Jackson Moe, daughter of Arthur C. and Anna (Nelson) Jackson, was born on May 26, 1933 in Blue Mounds Township, rural Starbuck. She was baptized on June 10, 1933 and later confirmed at Barsness Lutheran Church by Pastor Leonard T. Thompson. After Shirley was confirmed she began teaching Sunday school and did so until she graduated from high school. She began her schooling in Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1952. On June 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to M. Lawrence Moe at the Barsness Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Starbuck for approximately three months, when they moved north of Starbuck to the farm where Lawrence was born. Together they raised their family, milked cows for 33 years and continued to grain farm until a few years ago. It was here that Shirley enjoyed walking through the pastures to watch and hear the sounds of nature.

Shirley was a member of Indherred Lutheran Church, rural Starbuck. She enjoyed bird watching, along with feeding them and especially liked her flowers. Red was her very favorite color as this is why she waited for the cardinals to come and visit her feeders daily. Both Lawrence and Shirley enjoyed visiting with friends and going to the Dairy Queen. When the stores were open on Saturday evenings they would come to town and watch the traffic, along with doing the grocery shopping.

Shirley died on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris, having lived to reach the age of 73 years.
