Shirley Rasmussen

The memorial service for Shirley Rasmussen of Starbuck, Minnesota will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Starbuck, with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Starbuck Funeral Home.

Shirley Ann Noyes, daughter of Howard and Bernice (Powers) Noyes, was born on June 9, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. At a young age the family moved to a farm near Bertha, Minnesota where she grew up and attended school. On September 22, 1951 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Rasmussen. Early in their life they traveled the western states for Lloyd's work. Most of their time was spent in Montana. In 1965 they settled in Bluffton, Minnesota. Shirley owned several businesses during the 33 years in Bluffton including the Powerhouse Bar and Grill. Following their retirement, Lloyd and Shirley moved to Glascow, Montana. Lloyd passed away December 25, 2002. In 2006, Shirley moved to Starbuck, Minnesota to be close to her granddaughter Heidi and her children. Shirley suffered a stroke in September 2014 and then became a resident at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell, Minnesota, where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Shirley enjoyed cooking, riding horses in her early years and going to Las Vegas. She loved volunteering and helping at the nursing home in Starbuck and made very good friends where ever she was. Most of all, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley passed away peacefully on November 25, 2015 at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell, Minnesota. She was 80 years old.

She is survived by two sons: Doug (Kevan) Rasmussen of Tualatin, OR, and Steve (Mona) Rasmussen of Sahuarita, AZ; one daughter: Sandra Rasmussen of Brainerd, MN; one brother: Dennis Noyes of Tacoma, WA; four grandchildren: Heidi Roggenkamp, Samara Rasmussen, Trevor Rasmussen and Devan Thoe; five great-grandchildren: Justin Roggenkamp, Jordyn Roggenkamp, Jesse Rasmussen, Ruby Thoe and Violet Thoe; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband: Lloyd Rasmussen; one granddaughter: Noelle Rasmussen her parents and one sister: Patricia Moats.

Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck is in charge of the arrangements.
